Meet our New Staff!
We’re excited to announce Emmett Avery has officially joined Voices for Vermont’s Children as Paid Leave Coalition Manager! Emmett brings a wealth of experience in communications, advocacy, and organizing to the role.
Emmett grew up in Hardwick, where he reported for the Hardwick Gazette and the Barton Chronicle before moving to Burlington to attend the University of Vermont. During his time in Burlington, he wrote news stories that appeared on Vermont Public and served as a field intern and later Deputy Communications Director on Representative Becca Balint’s 2022 campaign. Last spring, Emmett interned at AARP VT, supporting AARP and the Vermont Paid Leave Coalition’s organizing and advocacy efforts. Most recently, he spent his summer and fall in Washington’s Third Congressional District, where he led day-to-day communications and acted as a spokesperson for one of the most competitive Democratic reelection campaigns of 2024. Beyond his professional work, Emmett enjoys reading and exploring the mountains on bikes and skis, often with a camera in tow.
We also have two new interns from UVM, Kylie Fox and Carly Treider, who were excited to share a little about themselves!
My name is Kylie and I'm a senior at UVM studying biological science with a minor in chemistry. I grew up in western MA and have wanted to become a dentist since I was little. I'm so excited to be working on the Oral Health Equity Project to hopefully expand access to affordable and minimally invasive dental care for kids across Vermont!
Carly is a senior at UVM from Farmington, Connecticut. She studies Gender Studies and Political Science, and she is looking forward to learning how to combine her passion with her knowledge to improve the lives of kids. During her time with Voices for Vermont’s Children Carly hopes to help equip kids in VT with the tools and confidence they need to live happy and healthy lives.
