Oral Health Advocacy Toolkit

Resources to help you advocate for the care you, your family, and your community deserve.

Our goal is to build a statewide community voice for oral health care and advocate for greater access to affordable, patient-centered, culturally responsive care. We know that rural communities, Black, Brown, and Indigenous people, and people with disabilities experience worse oral health. The way we provide dental care is disjointed and inequitable. Oral health is central to overall health, yet tens of thousands of Vermonters do not have access to preventive or routine dental care.

The toolkit is in development. Please let us know if there are specific resources that would support your advocacy.

  • These resources will help you understand the benefits and limitations of MIC treatment options.

    • Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) Fact Sheet from the Vermont Department of Health (PDF)

    • SDF information from the American Dental Association

  • Being finalized - check back soon!

We can all work to break down the imaginary wall between oral health and overall health, starting with how we talk about them.

  • Write a letter to the editor.

    Write to your legislators.

Write to your health care providers.

    • The Vermont Language Justice Project has developed an oral health education video in 18 languages.

    • An additional video explaining minimally invasive care is in development.

Tell Your Story

Lack of access to timely, affordable, quality oral health care creates a ripple effect across Vermonters’ lives, from overall health and well-being, to student learning, employment, and relationships. Telling your story helps policymakers understand the seriousness of the issue and creates pressure for change.
